Small daily habits for the winter months

Posted by : lemonwellmedblogs / On : / In : Health & Wellbeing
small daily habits

It’s not winter yet, but the days are getting colder and shorter. In this article, we will talk about five small daily habits that you can introduce to your day to day life that will help to feel better in the next months.

Get a vitamin D supplement

Vitamin D is essential for our wellbeing. It has all kinds of benefits: it supports the immune system and is essential for bones, teeth and muscles. Our bodies produce vitamin D when we get exposed to sunlight. But during the winter it is quite difficult, since days get darker. Vitamin D deficiency is’nt something you want to underestimate (we wrote a blog post about vitamin D deficiency a while ago – check it out!). This time of year, a small daily habit for winter is surely to start taking a vitamin D supplement.

Wash your hands when you get home

This is a must to minimise the risk to catch an illness in the winter. Everyone knows how easy it is to get a runny nose or feel ill during the winter months. Viruses and bacteria survive longer outside of our bodies when it’s cold. If you need to take public transport or visit plenty of public spaces, we advise to wash your hands right after you get back home – so you can get rid of all the nasty bacteria on your hands. You can also bring a hand sanitizer in your purse or pocket so you can wash your hands anywhere!

Keep your sleep schedule consistent

During the winter it gets dark early. This can mess with your sleep schedule: you might sleep more hours than necessary. This won’t make you more energetic during the day – on the contrary, it can make you feel groggy. Mantaining a consistent sleep schedule is a small but powerful habit to have if you want to keep feeling at your best!

Go outside even if it’s cold

This small daily habit is especially important for those who work from home. When it’s cold it’s easy to want to stay inside where it’s warm. But you should get out once in a while – because it’s essential to move your body. Even a 10 minutes walk in the park can make the difference. Surely you can workout at home – but getting out of your house can help with mental health too. And if you truly hate the winter cold, this could be the perfect moment to get a gym subscription.

Buy seasonal vegetables and fruits

By buying seasonal products, you get higher quality and tastier food (which is richer in nutrients as well). And it’s good on the enviroinment too. Because you are buying products from the UK or nearby countries, so it takes less to deliver those products to the supermarket. By buying seasonal vegetables and fruits, you’re doing something good for our planet! You can buy apples, pears or cranberries. And for vegetables: pumpkin, mushrooms, beetroot or brussels sprouts.
